Brandt moved behind her and placed his hands on the wide stucco-covered railing to either side of her hips. He bent forward and placed a soft kiss on one bare shoulder. “Sounds like fun.”

She shivered as his lips moved across her back and touched the top of the other shoulder. “Yeah. I was almost tempted.”

Brandt made a non-committal sound and moved upward, creating a warm trail of kisses up the back of her neck. She smelled like flowers and sun, her skin warm and delightfully soft. She lowered her head to allow him free access to her neck and throat. He took full advantage, dropping his hands to wrap his arms around her middle, pulling her into his aching shaft. She sighed as he tasted the sensitive skin beneath her ear and pressed closer. “I need you so badly, Jillie. It’s all I can think about.”

She stiffened slightly, not responding, and panic slid through him. She’d told him they couldn’t be together. What if she rejected him?

He straightened slowly and stepped away from her. “I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry.”

She stood too and turned to face him. “Did you mean it?”

“I would never lie to you.” Even as he said the words he cringed inside. He had been lying to her, and he intended to keep doing it.

Her dark gaze searched his face for a moment, and then she stepped closer, reaching toward his face with one hand. Her other hand rested on his hip. The contact burned like a brand.

She slid a finger over his lips and he kissed it, resisting the urge to slip it into his mouth. He wanted to go as slow as she needed to go. He wouldn’t rush her.

Even if it killed him.

The clutch of his jeans on his swollen shaft made dying a real possibility.

“I dream about you at night.” She spoke breathlessly, in a near whisper.

He forced himself not to respond, letting her take the lead.

She took another step, stopping as her bare toes bumped up against his in his flip-flops. The contact almost sizzled in the cool night air.

“I know I said we couldn’t be together…”

He shook his head. “If you aren’t comfortable with this…”

She stopped him with the touch of a delicate fingertip. “I want this. I do.” She lifted onto her toes and placed a soft kiss on his lips. “I really do.” She parted her lips slightly and gave him another whisper soft kiss. As she broke the kiss, she sucked his bottom lip into her mouth and nibbled it gently. “I know it’s a mistake, but it’s one I want to make.”

“It’s not as big a mistake as letting the world keep us apart,” Brandt whispered. He settled his hands onto her hips and pulled her into his body. He bent to capture her upturned lips in a heated kiss, and then groaned when he couldn’t get close enough to her or deepen the kiss the way he wanted to. His arms slipped around her waist and he dragged her up his long body, enjoying the soft friction between them as he gathered her into his arms to kiss her properly.
