Funny how reading an article in a woman’s magazine can lead to writing a 89,000-word paranormal romance novel! The piece about a woman who opened a bed and breakfast and grew lavender to use in special recipes piqued my interest about the flower. So naturally, I researched it.
What intrigued me about lavender is the legend that it attracts the fae. Fairies bestow healing and protection, plus help humans overcome emotional blocks. The perfect ingredient for a paranormal romance. 🙂 So Goddess, Awakened was born.
It’s the first book in The Goddess Connection series, which says: Every woman should embrace her inner goddess. What’s your connection? I have several more novels in this series in mind to follow. In each, the heroine will be somehow connected to a goddess. Her lifelong quirks will become strengths once she finds her true place in the world, and accepts herself for who she really is.
Lavender has an amazing trove of lore and legend, but I was surprised to find how many recipes include culinary lavender. So many are great for summer, too – lavender sorbet, raspberry-lavender vinaigrette, lavender margaritas, and lavender lemonade (one of my heroine’s trademark recipes!).
Sweeten your summer with lavender lemonade:
3 cups sugar
7 sprigs lavender
2 cups fresh lemon juice (about 12 lemons)
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 5 limes)
In a large saucepan, bring one gallon of water and the sugar to a boil. Remove from heat; add lavender sprigs, lemon and lime. Strain and chill. Then add ice, and enjoy!
For an easy lavender margarita, just add culinary lavender to a can of frozen margarita mix.
With a little help from a goddess, battling evil is a piece of cake for Jocelyn Gibson.
A descendant of the goddess Iris, Jocelyn Gibson may have forgotten about the realm of magic, but it hasn’t forgotten her. When Eric Hendricks is targeted by a demon, Joss must step in to battle the evil and save the town’s awkward, but endearing, vet…who also happens to be the man she loves.
Joss’s new inn, a culinary career specializing in cooking with lavender and a new love all make for a fine recipe of disaster. She needs to embrace her inner goddess and harness the powers she never knew she had before it’s too late.
