A petite woman, with dark hair styled in a pixie cut, wearing a SWAT uniform with the shirt unbuttoned and a white tank showing underneath opened the door. George raised both brows and looked between the two of them. She was stunning, and it made him wonder what Jesse’s wife looked like. Going straight to Jesse, the woman wrapped him up in a big hug and pressed her face into his chest.
“Good to see you, babe,” she said, lingering longer than she should have.
He pressed his face into her hair. “Thanks for doing this.”
Pulling back, she stared George down like she was daring him to say something. When he didn’t, she offered him her hand. “Kennedy.”
He took the woman’s hand as she offered it. “George and it’s a pleasure.”
“I just got home from a double, so sorry for the mess, Jesse.” She took her hand back and led them into a fairly clean townhouse, taking a seat on the sofa. “How’s Cill?”
“About the same.” Jesse rolled his eyes and took a seat on the chair.
“Still a raging bitch?” She picked up her beer and took a sip. “Can I get you two anything?”
“No, thank you.” George remained standing, his overcoat over his arm. His eyes were glued on Kennedy.
“Please don’t, Kennedy.” He let out a long breath.
“Jesse, you’re too good for her. I’ve been telling you this for years.” Setting the beer back on the coffee table, she toed off her boots.
“Since the day I started dating her.” Jesse chuckled. “Thanks for agreeing to talk to us.”
“You know I’d do anything for you.” She smiled for the first time.
