Blurb for Birth
Brie Sullivan has a new baby girl and there are a million things to do, but Brie doesn’t have the energy to keep up. Why? She’s still grieving for her husband and suffering from baby blues, but she won’t let that stop her. She’s come up with the answer–find a new husband to be the father of her kids.

Jason Clark has been doing everything he can to help Brie. He loves her but can he accept her proposal of marriage knowing she’s not thinking clearly about the future?

Why did hot dogs and chips sound like too much trouble?

Brie stared into the pantry trying to decide what to fix for dinner. She’d gone to the grocery store, but it still didn’t help with tonight’s meal plan.

The creaking of the front door as it opened alerted her to someone entering the house. Allison yelled, “Hey, Mom, can we play outside with George?”

“George?” Brie turned.

Jen Chaney’s blonde-haired lab came romping toward her. “What are you doing here, boy?”

Brie stepped into the breakfast nook area and dropped to her knees to greet the dog. He rushed forward, burrowing his face into her chest while she rubbed his head, neck, and back. Her kids hurried closer and danced around them.

“Come on, Mom, can we play outside for a little while longer?” Allison’s pleaded.

Ethan laid his hand on Brie’s shoulder. He drug out the word, “Please?”

Brie clenched her teeth together and fought the desire to scream. She couldn’t think. The dog’s woofing and exuberance, Allison’s whining, Ethan’s begging, it was too much. “As long as you stay in the backyard,” sprang out of her mouth. Anything, to end the abuse on her senses.

Her reply sent the kids racing toward the basement door which gave them easy access to the backyard.

“Come on boy, let’s get your ball,” Allison called when George delayed for a moment before following in their wake.

Brie rose from her knees. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Jen…her short brown hair cut in the latest style, her elegant form. She had the type of body Brie had always longed for, long and lean. Instead, Brie envisioned herself as looking like a squashed hourglass with oversize breasts and round hips. Every calorie she ate showed, her stomach refusing to return to her pre-maternity size. No sexy Dolly Parton look-a-like here.

Forcing a cheerful tone to her voice, Brie asked, “Hey there, what brought you by?”

“I thought I’d stop and check on you.” Her friend’s brown-eyed gaze revealed a different story. Thoughts of Jason popped into Brie’s head. What had he told Jen?
